5Great Sound, Great Price
By Howard C. Hodson
Pros: Small, Bluetooth, works as a hands free phone, very good price for the quality of the sound.

Cons: No charger. (Does come with USB to mini-connector cable) This is not a real "con". Most people will have a 5 volt USB charger and it keeps the price down.

One shipping problem. It was shipped via USPS. It sat in my mailbox at 95 degrees for 3 hours. The glue on the rubber feet was soft. I had to re-seat the feet. After cooling off, the feet were okay. Lesson learned, don't set the speaker in direct Sun when out and about. Also, be cautious with the bottom of the unit when it has been sitting in a closed car. The feet are necessary. The bottom is the bass exit.

Other than the soft glue when hot, the device is well built. It is not intrusive sitting on a desk; it's about a standard coffee cup around and 2/3 as tall.

The USB cable mini-connection is not the same as an Android phone. I had to remove the phone's USB cable and use the one that came with the speaker. It also charges from my laptop. On the laptop, I suspect that the charge time will approach forever. On a normal charger, maximum charge time is rated at 2 hours. Don't lose the cable.

I checked the range with "Mea Culpa" by Enigma. The voices were distinct, the higher pitched instruments clear, and the bass was good.

I checked volume limits with "Enter the Sandman" by Metallica. It sounded very good. I could feel my computer desk vibrate.

I checked clarity and crispness with "Amy's Lullaby" by Mars Laser. I could hear every piano key distinctly. The triangle tings were crisp.

My final test was "Telegraph Road" by Dire Straits. "Telegraph Road" has the greatest electric guitar riffs ever recorded. (My opinion.) It was great.

Sitting next to it, I have to lower the volume. The speaker won't fill an auditorium, but in a normal living room or den, it is fine. Sitting on a hard, flat surface, the sound is good. Sitting in a sound reflective corner or near a wall, the sound is very good. Setting it on a thick, cloth surface will lower the sound quality and volume drastically. If you take it somewhere, take a heavy duty plastic plate with you. It will keep it clean and increase the sound quality.

I've only had the device for a few hours. I can't address actual battery life. It is rated for 3 hours of music and 4 hours of talk time.

I checked the hands free calling function and it worked fine. As good or better than the corporate speaker phones I've used.

Instructions provided by the manufacturer were concise, direct, and clear. Even warns about high temperature effects.

Bottom line, the speaker exceeds expectations for a $30 product in both sound quality and construction. I am impressed.

Update 02/10/2012:

I have had the unit since the end of August. It has been working flawlessly. I wanted to add this update because I had a chance to listen to a similar speaker for comparison. The other unit had multiple speakers, but didn't sound much better. The difference in price was over $170. Unless you are going to connect through the headset jack, I don't think you can improve on the sound quality enough to justify a more expensive device. I'm even more impressed with the Satechi unit than I was in August.

1Works great until it doesn't
By Ernesto
I bought this product because it was well priced and had good reviews from tech blogs and at first it didn't disappoint. However, after only a few weeks the sound cut out and I could not get it to come back. I tried it on several other bluetooth devices and it would work with none of them. I sent it back to Satchi and they sent me a new one. Then I had the exact same experience on the new one. Satechi's support is mediocre at best and the girl on the phone only would offer to send me another replacement (despite the fact that I had now had two failures of the same product!). Spend a few extra dollars and get a higher quality speaker!

5Two words-Value and Quality
By Peter Chan
This thing is truly amazing. I wanted a small, portable, and loud speaker to use with my Android Galaxy Nexus phone so when I watch Netflix or music I've stored on my phone I could hear the voices. This thing rocks. Charging was quick and the sound is loud enough where I have to actually turn it down because it was TOO loud. For $30 bucks, seriously, you can't go wrong. I didn't test all of the bluetooth speakers out there, nor did I test the mic on the front for speakerphone calls, but so far out of the box it works exactly as advertised. Shipping was quick as well. Hopefully the rechargeable battery lasts decently long.
