4Very good sound
By DAS Music
This is a basic ipod dock with a simple remote that takes you through an ipod menu. The new unit charges the ipod and seems to fix all the negative reviews associated with the previous model PDX 30 including a plug in for other audio formats. It has excellent bass, and good sound in this price category. Most in this category sound tinny, or distorted at a louder level-not this radio. You can play it loud and it fills a small room. You change the sound by changing the EQ settings on the IPOD. It does have a red light warning indicator if you were to overdo it or to warn if the ipod is not in place. It was bought for my son so he can practice guitar to music. Cheaper ones are drowned out by his playing-this one does it so I get my higher priced radio back. There are too many reviews comparing things to Bose or others. Audio is unique and you need to listen to these to really tell. I listened to many- found them all unimpressive- until I got to the higher priced units-ie north of $400. I have a wave radio and a cambridge soundworks-they sound better but these are not their dock units and those are not the same. In fact, the bose dock in the $300 price range wasn't great so I felt picky about it. This won for me as it has a warm bass response-but this is also under $200. There is no radio, so this is simple but it is also what I like about it. I give it 4 stars because it sounds great, has good bass, and is easy to use. If it were an audiophile dream come true, it would have 5 stars and it would probably cost more. I consider this a great value and sounds good enough to get 4 stars.

5Great sound and it simply works
By M. Schrage
I did some comparisons at stores including the Apple store, listening to every model my iphone 4 with bumper case would fit in and most of them sounded pretty weak until you got to the $250 and up group. I compared all sorts of iphone docks online and I was set on buying the Kicker. I went to check it out at a brick and mortar store and it did sound great, but sitting next to it was this little Yamaha brick for $100 less. I compared them side by side and I actually think the Yamaha sounded better at low to medium volume levels. When you REALLY get it loud the Kicker sounded better, but I know I will rarely ever actually play it that loud. At low to medium loud volumes this thing sounds great - way better than the other options in it's price range. It sounds good loud also, but it's not going to shake the walls. I have other systems for that purpose.

I love my iphone because it simply works great all the time. Not buggy or complicated. It makes sense. That's what I wanted in a dock. I can put my iphone 4 in it with the bumper case on. It immediately connects. It's shielded so I don't have static noise or interference from the phone. It charges my phone. It has only two buttons. Really, do you need any more? Your iphone does everything else. The remote does control basic features on the phone including skipping songs and browsing your playlists or artists. The design is classic and simple. So many other docks looked tacky and felt cheap, but the Yamaha feels solid. I keep it on my desk at work work and everyone has been very impressed with the sound quality.

5High quality for fair price
By DNB_Seattle
I don't have any other ipod docks to compare to, but I know good sound. I am used to listening to KRK 8 inch reference speakers or Denon AHD2000 headphones, and this little unit actually suprised me with the quality of sound.

Granted, this unit is quite small, so don't expect to blow out the windows, but it produces very good bass and highs for such a small set. It is loud enough for me to worry about bothering my neighbors:) It is 15 watt per channel, which i believe is 10 watts better than the comparable Klipsch unit.

Very simple design, and very realistic sound reproduction, not too boomy or tinny. Lastly, this will work fine with Iphone 4 or Ipod classic (use both). Menus can be managed via the remote without any trouble. Bottom line: small, simple, quality sound for a reasonable price.
