For the money, this is pretty darn good.
I'm happy with what I paid and as an audio engineer, that's not something easily accomplished. I'm fairly picky with the equipment I buy, but I needed a somewhat portable set of speakers for my iPod and Macbook, something under $30, that can fill a 10'x10' room. This system fits the bill.
This is *NOT* a stereo or bookshelf system, it's just a set of speakers! Keep that in mind when you go to buy it.
Plug and play, but be sure to fiddle around with the volume and bass knobs on the back of the woofer (go with mid level setting first), then go to your EQ settings on your iPod, laptop, etc. Taking advantage of EQ presets or your own presets will give you the best from this little gem.
I really do suggest making a few customized EQ settings in iTunes (or whichever program you use) for this speaker set. You will get more out of it that way.
This is not a heavy, bass boost, butt kicking system... if you want that, shell out the $200+ for a bookshelf system with a huge subwoofer, because it's not going to come from this speaker set. This set is good for filling small rooms and possibly a bit more. It has a nice sound and does resonate the bass and low end rather well when the right EQ is used.
It looks good to boot.
